For more than 80 years, Naval Air Station Oceana, Dam Neck Annex, and Naval Auxiliary Landing Field (NALF) Fentress have delivered world-class support to Navy and Joint forces. From its origins as a remote auxiliary landing field during World War II to today’s premier East Coast Master Jet Base, NAS Oceana has grown alongside the City of Virginia Beach—now serving as one of the region’s largest employers and a proud partner in the Hampton Roads community.
As America celebrates 250 years of service and sacrifice, NAS Oceana remains at the forefront of naval aviation, enabling the combat readiness that has defined our Navy since its founding.
The airfields of NAS Oceana and NALF Fentress are critical strategic assets. As one of nine Class IV Naval air stations and one of the busiest airfields in the region, NAS Oceana supports approximately 600 flight operations daily across 17 squadrons and four Carrier Air Wings. Air Traffic Controllers manage more than 10,000 cubic miles of airspace, ensuring the safe and efficient flow of aircraft that sustain Fleet operations around the globe.
The installation’s Air Terminal plays a vital role in global mobility, supporting hundreds of Navy Air Logistics Office requests and moving tens of thousands of passengers, along with critical cargo and equipment, each year. The transient line further extends this reach, supporting approximately 1,800 visiting aircraft annually.
Dam Neck Annex is home to numerous training schoolhouses and Joint commands, and services 15,000 Sailors yearly, strengthening the warfighting capability of today’s force and the next generation.
Guided by a steadfast commitment to Fleet, Fighter, and Family, NAS Oceana delivers mission excellence while supporting Sailors and their families. That commitment extends beyond the gate through strong community partnerships and outreach initiatives, including the NAS Oceana Air Show—where we proudly share the story of naval aviation, inspire future generations, and honor 250 years of America.
