SCHEDULE

Friday, October 16th , 2009
Due to the show being later in the year and with the risk of cooler temperatures, it was decided that we would not have a Twilight Air Show on Friday, October 16th. The Twilight Air Show is certainly one of our personal favorites and you can bet it’ll be back on the schedule for 2010.

But don’t take Friday off your air show calendar yet! We’d like to cordially invite you to the NAS Oceana Officer’s Club for the first ever Air Show Oktoberfest! The party starts at 5pm and will include live music by Exploding Sun, drink specials, authentic German beverages and Bratwurst for sale and an opportunity to meet the air show performers, the Canadian Snow Birds and the US Navy Blue Angels!

The Virginia Beach Noblemen (www.thenoblemen.org) will play host in their lederhosen and they’ll be bringing their favorite Bier Fraus to liven the event up! The NAS Oceana Air Show Oktoberfest is open to the public and admission is free but a ticket is required to gain access to the base. Simply click here to download and print your own ticket. When arriving at NAS Oceana main gate, remain in the left lane and you’ll be directed to parking. Open to ages 21 and over.

Saturday and Sunday, October 17th & 18th, 2009
The NAS Oceana Air Show occurs on Saturday and Sunday the 17th and 18th of October. This year’s power-packed lineup includes U.S. Navy Blue Angels and the Canadian Snowbirds Demonstration Team as well as top civilian performers like John Mohr, Kent & Warren Pietsch, Otto the Helicopter, Bill Leff, Mike Rinker and Dale “Snort” Snodgrass. You’ll see tactical demonstrations by the F/A-18 Hornet and Super Hornet, the E-2C Hawkeye, the F-15E Strike Eagle and the F-16 Fighting Falcon as well as heart stopping parachute performances by the British Red Devils and the USO Jump Team. You also won’t want to miss the smoke and flames of the Shockwave Jet Truck, the stirring USAF Heritage Flight featuring the F-4 Phantom and the awesome spectacle of the US Navy Air Power Demonstration. Visit the “Performers” page for details of each of these remarkable aerial artists.

While the order of performances has yet to be determined, the following is a general schedule of major events:

10:00am Flying begins
12:00pm National Anthem/Flag Jump
12:30pm Canadian Snowbirds Demonstration Team

Saturday Night, October 17th, 2009
Due to the show being later in the year and with the risk of cooler temperatures, it was also decided that we would not host our annual Air Show Beach Blast event at 31st Street Park. The good news is that we’re working very closely with the Susan G. Komen foundation and are pleased to announce that we’ll be providing support to their 1st Annual “Blues Breastival” celebration on Saturday, October 17th at the 31st Street Park! The event is a free concert starting at 5:00 p.m. and runs until 11:00 p.m. As the sun sets during the event, the skies will fill with the thunder of an afterburner flyover by an F/A-18 Super Hornet, and then the British Red Devil and USO Jump Teams will perform night parachute jumps onto the beach. Also, the Blue Angels will make an appearance and meet and greet with the crowd. More information can be found at www.komentidewater.org
